Definition

A measure of the overall internal volume of a vessel, calculated according to the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships (1969). Gross tonnage (GT) is a dimensionless index derived from the total volume of all enclosed spaces and is used for regulatory, safety, and fee calculations.
