About This Vessel
Kapitan Dranitsyn (Russian: «Капитан Драницын») is a Russian icebreaker, built in Finland for the former Soviet Union. Since October 1995 she has been used as a research vessel by AARI. She also offers excursions in the Arctic Ocean north of Russia. It's named after German Vasilyevich Dranitsyn (1912–1976), a notable Soviet polar explorer, captain, and significant figure in the Arctic fleet, celebrated for his contributions to Arctic navigation.
