Safety Record
- RISK OF COLLISION (near collision) - With another vessel or other floating objectMinorAug 9, 2025Verchères, QUEBEC (QC)
On 09 August 2025, the bulk carrier "CHESTNUT", while under the conduct of a pilot, reported having experienced a close quarters situation with the pleasure craft QC470473 while transiting in the St. Lawrence River off Verchères, QC. The pleasure craft was towing a PWC with 2 people on board in the navigation channel. The 2 people were seen entering the water when then PWC capsized and were retrieved by the pleasure craft. The bulk carrier had to perform an evasive maneuver.
- TOTAL FAILURE OF ANY MACHINERY OR TECHNICAL SYSTEMMinorJan 22, 2025Section 105, Port of Quebec, QUEBEC (QC)
On 22 January 2025, the bulk carrier "CHESTNUT", while under the conduct of a pilot, reported issues with its main engine while approaching the dock at Quebec City, QC. The vessel moored at the Port of Quebec with the assistance of tugs and the crew investigated the issue.

Composite Risk
Risk Score
Multiple adverse factors, or a hard ship-specific signal, lift this hull above the fleet norm.
A coverage-weighted blend of the 2 components we could read for this hull — the weights renormalise over only the components present, so a thin read is never inflated and a hull is never credited a “safe 0” for a signal it has no row for. This headline is flagged low-confidence (a thin or structural-only read) and should not be treated as a verdict. Higher means riskier. Derived in-house from government-open port-State-control, flag, sanctions and our own vessel data; weight it by the coverage above.
Estimated
Capacity & Classification
Bulker · summer draught 7.3 m · 39.2 t per cm immersion
Estimate only — modelled from deadweight (deadweight regression) using a first-principles hydrostatic model, not measured hydrostatic tables. The design draught it is anchored to is unreliable across the fleet.
density DWT/GT=1.55 is consistent with declared bulker
Declared type is consistent with the class implied by the vessel’s size signals. Inferred via our shared size-based classifier.
